Read Luke 14:1-14. The priest and Pharisees were administrators and interpreted religious law. They would observe the law in their homes and in the temple. Jesus asked a question to these “so called” experts of religious law as He encountered a man before Him suffering from swollen legs and arms, “Well, is it permitted in the law to heal people on the Sabbath day, or not?” They really could not answer Jesus because they had put so many stipulations upon the observance of the law, the law it self became diluted and difficult to interpret thus putting a load of care on the people. When they refused to answer, Jesus touched the man and healed him and sent him away. Jesus would then “stump them” by turning to them after healing the suffering man, and asked them, “Which of you doesn’t work on the Sabbath? If your son or cow falls into a pit, don’t you proceed at once to get him out?” (NLT). We too can have that same spirit of the Pharisees and priest of religious law! We are so concerned about our traditions and walk in blind obedience to dogma and adherence rules and regulations that we fail to understand the true heart of Christianity. “Love God with all your heart, soul, and mine, and love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no law higher that this!
IF YOU HAVE RECIEVED THE SPIRIT AND ARE OBEYING HIM, YOU FIND HE BRINGS YOUR SPIRIT INTO COMPLETE HARMONY WITH GOD, AND THE SOUND OF YOUR GOINGS AND THE SOUND OF GOD’S GOINGS ARE ONE AND THE SAME. Oswald Chambers (1874-1917)
